Innovation and Diversity – Why is it Critical For Your Organisation?

Welcome back to my blog series on diversity! Innovation is a critical component of organisations and how successful they are. My colleague, Tim will be discussing innovation in further detail and how we can assist in further detail. I will be discussing innovation and why diversity is a critical component of innovation.

Firstly, what is diversity? Diversity is two- fold. According to Harvard Business Review – diversity is inherent and acquired. Inherent involves traits that you are born with such as gender, ethnicity etc. Acquired involves traits you get from experience such as selling with female consumers can make you gender smart.

Organisations understand that in order to have a successful organization they must have a diverse and inclusive workforce. According to the Forbes Insights Article pdf the key findings for innovation and diversity where:

  • Diversity is a key driver of innovation and is a critical component of being successful on a global scale
  • A diverse and inclusive workforce is crucial for companies that want to attract and retain top talent Nearly all respondents reported that their companies have diversity and inclusion strategies in place
  • Organization’s diversity goals and priorities won’t change significantly over the next three years Responsibility for the success of company’s diversity/inclusion efforts lies with senior management
  • Significant progress has been made to build and retain diverse workforces, but there are still some impediments to companies’ efforts
