In this next instalment of my diversity series, I have engaged the knowledge of wellbeing expert Eleni Leontsini. I hope her wellbeing advice is of use in the context of diversity and wellbeing.

How does fitness and yoga impact everyday life?

It gives us Energy, sustained energy, to feel and participate in  our daily activities with vitality and focus.

It aids our immunity so we feel capable of not collapsing with every virus that may be lurking in the office- workplace.

Allows sleep to be more deeper and eases erratic sleep.

Yoga allows us to be conscious of our breathing, regardless of the daily stresses that incur(which will) too not stress to the point of been anxious and depressed.

Yoga has given me the courage to build up my inner voice to feel stronger when many doubts creep in.

Fitness and yoga are so important in instilling Self Confidence regarding age and sex as well as our daily sense of achievement.

Is there any fitness regimes you advice should be followed to decrease stress and assist in wellbeing?

Attend Yoga classes that are suitable for your level and you feel connected and supported by the teacher as well as in cooperating 5-15 min stop and drop everything sessions, to Breathe and feel clear.

Walking Outdoors , solo or with friends. To be out in nature is fundamental for each human.

How can organisations contribute to fitness and wellbeing within their workplace.

In cooperating in house events, classes seminars on a regular period  consistently throughout the year.Allows workers to have access to classes a minimum of 30-40 min. Morning or midday.

Access to clean air, plants , water , juices, clean kitchen facilities, space to walk and stretch. Beautiful music and serene surroundings.

Dark walls and heavy partitions- so depressing!!!!

If you were to give leaders one piece of advice relating to fitness and everyday wellbeing what would that be?

Do something daily that makes you move, to seal your day with gratitude and to nourish with Real food –  that’s a trifecta!!!!

How could Yoga and Hiking benefit someone in a leadership role?

It’s about stretching out our boundaries, changing our at times rehearsed routines , to be able to work in changing outdoor conditions, which we can have no control over.

To interact with people in a group with a mixed level of Capabilities and understanding of instructions. To start and finish something as a group, and were everyone feels inclusive.

Yoga and hiking enhances a leaders role to be supportive and to relate to each individual as well as the groups needs.

How would an emerging Leader use yoga to benefit them as their work and life gets busier and more stressful?

To learn to put the brakes and too not be swept up in excess stress and destructive behaviour that can manifest when we are not mindful of our health and our serenity.

Yoga is a daily confidence booster, and an emerging leader regardless of which sector they are in, has to be able to make decisions that are not always stated in a manual.

It allows clear focus which a leader needs.

Yoga also allows us to perceive and read signals of when something may be going on wrong at work. Mindfulness physical and emotional, with that there is also I feel truthfulness that comes through.

We all try hard but at times we can get it wrong, which is normal we are human and always learning.

With my experience and daily observations with all the clients that I work with, Yoga is what keeps our Anxiety at bay. A fast environment in such a fast city such as Sydney it’s a daily truth that anxiety and sense of unease, depression and fear manifest.

How could an established senior executive leading a complex organisation make use of yoga hiking to benefit themselves and their business?

For the Leader/executive a sense of passion and commitment to there organisation. Quality time spent breathing, moving, experiencing, relating to the earth and the people.

Yoga is a communication of Body,Mind and Spirit.

A strong leader brings strength to the organisation.

Discipline is what springs up for me.Strong discipline makes strong capable leaders and makes a business model stronger. It’s much easier to say no at times then yes or procrastinate. Once you start a hike there is no changing of mind or stopping. Once in a yoga posture you cant stop and walk away. Discipline and commitment, which I feel brings passion to all of us, to what we do and purpose, why are we doing this?
