Leaders report having never worked so hard, and we see results from caring for teams…

Time on the Terrain

In this weekly report on our experiences on the terrain of leadership development, two prominent features;

  • 1) Leaders have never worked so far before. In a series of conversations with Executive leaders this week, and I’d confess in the view of my wife on my work these past months, leaders report never having worked so long, so intensely and for such a sustained period has they are right now. This does come with the territory of leading organisations big or small through the conditions of a global pandemic of course, but also comes with a warning. Beware burnout. HBR recently issued a series of articles about burnout symptoms and ways to manage it. In our current Time with Tim series on Who to Invest In, You is the first tier. Invest in whatever means you need to, in order to sustain your leadership and prevent burnout, so you can lead to your greatest potential.
  • 2) Leaders are demonstrating real care for their people. We use an objective team performance model, PCS, to measure the performance of teams and coach and develop learning solutions so they can progress towards sustained high performance. The latest data we are seeing from these reports shows that one of the performance drivers that showing real improvement is leaders are demonstrating real care for their teams. We spoke at length about this with Dr Adam Fraser recently for Better World Leaders, and his view was that this factor will be a breakthrough for team performance and organisational culture that we should focus on and invest in to continue to progress as we hopefully come towards the back-end of the CoVid pandemic and focus on the workplace ahead of us. If these topics are of interest to you feel free to ask any questions you have here, or if you need help addressing either of these areas – please get in touch and we’ll do all we can to support you.

See you again soon as we share more of our experiences from our Time on the Terrain.
