Tracy Eames on why we need to focus on meaningful work, and how to bring more meaning through your team

This conversation is one of fellowship between myself and Tracy Eames, a leadership practitioner from the East Coast of the USA with whom I have discovered a great affinity and shared devotion to a foundational column of work for both of us – meaningful work.

In Tracy’s words, we all spend so much of our time at work with our teams, and all too often people do not find it rewarding. As we all talk about employee engagement and building culture, I often feel like the bigger point is being missed among a checklist of items that don’t truly address the challenges we are trying to solve.

When we come to work, we want to have a clear role that we know contributes to the success of our team and company i.e. we have meaningful work. We want to be a valued members of teams who are recognised for our successes and given the opportunity for future development growth and a celebrated contribution to each other, our organisation and the greater community we serve.

By doing this, Tracy hopes to help people enjoy the long hours we all dedicate to our work, but also hope that our collective efforts help make the world a better place through more thoughtful and innovative solutions that solve our world’s most complex challenges.
